The 174th Infantry Regiment was created during the American Civil War in 1854.
The regiment was transferred to several training camps during the Second World War, in order to provide soldiers with accelerated infantry training (six weeks).
These included Camp Lewis in 1942 and Camp Chaffee in 1944.
In 1955, the regiment was disbanded and divided into units of various arms and services.
