This magnificent large wooden sign comes from the city of Tours and certainly from the main point of passage from the ZO zone to the ZL zone, the Wilson bridge.
The conditions of the armistice fixed by Germany and Italy impose on France a line of demarcation which cuts its territory in two parts:
– The occupied zone (ZO), administered by the German forces
– The zone “free” (ZL) on which the French government is responsible under Maréchal Pétain regime installed in Vichy.
This panel is a very beautiful piece telling the period of occupation of France.
Rare piece indeed most panels of this type were destroyed at the Liberation.
