On D-Day, the 1st Special Brigade was tasked with disembarking behind the 8th Infantry Brigade, capturing the port of Ouistreham and connecting with the 6th Airborne Division.
Commando n ° 6 Commando landed on Queen Red Beach “La Brèche” at 8:40 a.m. on June 6, 1944.
In the end, it took the commando three and a half hours to advance the 6.5 miles (10.5 km) to find the D Company troops of the 2nd Battalion of the Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry under Major John Howard.
By the end of the day, No.6 Commando had suffered three deaths and 32 wounded.
