During World War II, the US Army Air Forces had several commands.
One of these commands was the Flying Training Command (FTC). It began as the Air Corps Flying Training Command on 23 January 1942, was renamed the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command (AAFTC) on 15 March 1942 and merged with the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command to become the Army Air Forces Training Command on 31 July 1943.
Continuing its service after the war, it was renamed Air Training Command on 1 July 1946.
The mission of the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command is to train new Army pilot candidates and air cadets for the flying program.
