Piece of wing from a P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft.

Part of the painted star is still visible.

Some impacts are also perceptible on the wing.

This relic was recovered a few days ago in a farm in the center of Cardonville and certainly kept as a souvenir of that period.

In 1944, the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion built the ALG A-03 airfield on the commune from June 10th to 14th, which was operational until September 1st.

It was used by the 368th and 370th Fighter Groups of the 9th Air Force, protected by the B Battery of the 115th Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion.

This piece is a true historical relic of this period.
