US model M2 helmet complete with under-helmet liner, identified as part of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division in Normandy.
Heavy “Mickey Mouse” camouflaged helmet, typical brush application. Half-moon-type lugs, one of which is broken and repaired in the field with wire. Laundry number “R-1182” inscribed inside and out. “Rankins” name painted in black on front.
Westinghouse-built liner with sewn-in A-shaped chinstrap typical of parachute models. Chin strap turned up, sweat bar missing, “Magui” name painted white on inside.
This exceptional helmet was discovered in Normandy and comes from an important French collection on the Battle of Normandy.
In original condition, very good patina and wear from use.
