Cotton patch of the 79th Infantry Division US Army.

The 79th ID landed on Utah Beach between June 12th and 14th to be engaged in the battle of Normandy.

It takes part in the offensive on Cherbourg, taking in particular the fort du Roule, before penetrating the city on June 25th.

During the following month, it was engaged in the Battle of the Hedges.
