710th Tank Battalion cotton shoulder badge.

During the Second World War, the US Army decided to create armoured divisions for front line breakthroughs, and independent tank battalions for close support of the infantry.

These battalions consisted of about 850 men.

In June 1944, the 710th Tank Battalion was positioned in Seattle, in the Pacific area, a complex considered a prime target for any Japanese carrier raid on the West Coast.
